This means that they could be a problem when the system is changed over to cycle the feed 2 gas with air, as those two reactors will cause carry over, as well as get altered by the other MCs. It may be necessary to change sampling proceedure somehow. It's composition was measured after calibrating instruements, and it's CO2 and O2 values were the same as tank #4; consequently, not change was made to the gas mix composition/ Note, the gas mix composition still does not correspond to what it would be predicted to be based on the mass flow controller mixing. The strange aspect is that it is not just an offset, because different factors would have to be applied to CH4 and O2 (and maybe CO2). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note Number: 7 (08/28/2010 11:09:03) Continuing on note 6. If the air composition is actually what it was measured to be: O2: 20.91%, CO2: 0.021%, CH4: 0.00% Then here are three different predictions ****** MFC-based mixing ******* MFC is set at 5.19 sccm CH4 and 109.9 sccm air. Base on this the composition of the mix gas should be: O2: 19.967 CO2: 0.020 % CH4: 4.510 % ****** Based on observed mix concentration of 4.90% CH4, mix should be: O2: 19.885 % CO2: 0.020 % CH4: 4.900 % ****** Based on observed O2 mix concentration of 19.6%, mix should be: O2: 19.60 % CO2: 0.020 % CH4: 6.265 % As can be seen, linear mixing or measurements is NOT occuring, because none of the predicted mixex matches what is obseved of approximately O2: 19.6 % CO2: 0-0.02 (at the level of detection here) CH4: 4.90% The only other explaination is that the carry-over to the mix tank from the sample loop is causing the problems.
